Family    Voyaging

Wind Dancer anchored at Bora Bora, French Polynesia - you and your family could be here, too!

Summary: Family Voyaging - Ak to nZ

Before you subscribe to read our book sight unseen, we invite you to look over the reviews, examine the summary and peruse a few sample pages. The following paragraph from Volume II is typical of the author's writing style:

Wind - Yes, please, but not too much. The wind is approximately never blowing at the right velocity or from the right direction for the course you’ve chosen. That’s just sailing. When your life depends on the breeze -- too strong or too light -- it’s a different story. We have literally begged aloud for both ends of the spectrum, secretly pleaded with a higher authority for change and attempted to psychologically transform ominous weather charts into what we preferred they would show. None of this worked. The wind is beauty and the beast, friend and foe, comfort and distress, life and death. The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails. - William Arthur Ward

Family Voyaging - Ak to nZ is truly a book for everyone, not just for those who are about to embark on a family adventure. In REVIEWS, below, read the comments of two people who are not planning to voyage but have thoroughly enjoyed the book nonetheless.

Volume I is The Narrative where we tell the story of our own personal voyage -- on the ocean, amid foreign surroundings and deep within ourselves. It is the tale of a modern American family who chose to do something unique with its life. Here is the high adventure, the thrills and excitement, the soul-searching, the newfound relationships and the fulfillment of a quest not unlike those of early explorers. No punches are pulled; the good, the bad and the ugly are given equal treatment as the story unfolds over a three-year period. Our fervent hope is that your connection to other human beings will be on a decidedly stronger footing after vicariously experiencing our Voyage of Discovery.

Volume II is The Glossary where the crew takes direct aim at the crucial subjects -- in an A to Z alphabetized format -- to be pondered before casting off your lines, physically and emotionally. The result is a humorous, enlightening, serious, poignant and practical amalgam of the inner workings of a family expedition into itself. It is not a collection of technical terms and nautical gobbledygook. This volume covers over 150 topics ranging from Anchoring to Zephyrs and everything in between. Each subject is treated as an individual short story. It's an entertaining read straight through, or you may choose specific subjects from the Table of Contents, which serves as an index.

REVIEWS:

Thank you thank you thank you! I am thoroughly absorbed. I am planning an extended cruise with my family, and have been having a really hard time finding accounts from families that have kids. I found your book on your website and ordered it to my Kindle. I also love how you include how you got the kids involved from the very beginning. We are doing the same but its nice to hear other tips on how to get them into the trip. Just wanted to drop you a line and tell you how much i am enjoying your book! -

Oh my God! I just finished the chapter 'The Squash Zone.' I was on the edge of my seat! You spin a good story and the scary part is that it happened! I remember the blog entries but this made it clear and in context.  Good job! - Randy B.

I've just started 'The Crossing' chapter and just have to comment on how much fun this read is! You consistently hit the nail on the head with an amazing mix of story telling, hard fact and observation. A very rewarding read to say the least. - Matt G.
